During this virtual discussion, we’ll talk in more detail regarding my services, package customization, cost, and next steps. I’ll be happy to clarify any questions or concerns you may have about hiring me as a doula.

Prenatal visit and 24 hour on call support

The prenatal visit is a 2 hour long in person or virtual meeting where will prepare you for your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care.

Prenatal Visit

This in-person visit will cover a wide variety of topics related to pregnancy, birth, and postpartum education:

  • The overall birth process
  • Stages of labor
  • Changes taking place during labor
  • Timing contractions
  • Birth planning, including augmentation, induction, medication & epidural
  • Breathing and non-medical alternatives for relief of labor intensity
  • Optimal fetal positioning
  • Positive affirmations
  • When to call your doula
  • What to bring to the hospital
  • Surgical birth
  • Newborn care
  • Postpartum care/plan
  • Comfort measures for baby
  • Breastfeeding and baby wearing
  • Circumcision
  • Staying in communication leading up to delivery day, including the 24/7 on-call period

Birth Plan Worksheet

We will develop a comprehensive Birth Plan outlining your needs and preferences for each stage of labor, birth, and post-delivery, including:

  • Pain management
  • Who you want in your birth space
  • What you would like to wear
  • How you would like to begin pushing
  • Immediate post-delivery options (e.g. delayed cord clamping and immediate skin-to-skin time)
  • What you want to accomplish within the first hour after birth.

Labor and Delivery

After we’ve customized your birth plan, it’s time to put all you’ve learned into practice! Starting at 37 weeks of pregnancy, I’ll be on call 24/7 for your birth. I’ll be with you during your labor, the delivery, and 1-2 hours post-birth. I’ll ensure your needs are being met, assist with your baby’s first feeding, help transition you and your family into your recovery room, and do everything I can to keep you comfortable with everything you need.

Postpartum Visit

During the postpartum visit, I will check in and address any issues relating to postpartum care, including:

  • Breastfeeding and bottle feeding issues
  • Your mental health and well-being
  • Basic newborn care
  • Perineal health and healing
  • Discuss the events of your birth

Continuous Support

Of course, you’ll continue to have questions, concerns, and changes in your pregnancy in between our scheduled in-person visits. I’ll be available to provide you with accepting, inclusive, factual information to support you all along the way. We can chat virtually via text, phone, video/Zoom calls, or other communication methods of your choice.
